Adalbaldus

Adalbaldus. Copyist.. Saec. IX.

A Presbyter.

Wrote, probably during the Carolingian epoch, "Severi Sulpicii Vita Martini Episcopi," and ten other tracts collected in a volume formerly in the Cathedral Library at Quedlinburg.

"Omnia nitide sunt scripta in membr. formæ mediæ quartum quam vocant, non sine ornamento aureatum literarum earumque capitalium per paginam integram sub cujusque libri vel epistolæ initium. Scriba se indicat sub finem his verbis: 'Ego indignus presbyter Albaldus hunc libellum ex iussione Domino meo Fredegiso manu propria scripsi.'"--T. Eckhardi Codices Msti. Quedlinburgenses, 14, No. x.

This "Sulpicius," &c., was probably given by the Empress Judith to her cousin Ludolph, Duke of Saxony, and his heirs, founders of the Cathedral of Quedlinburg.--J. G. Eccardi Historia Genealog. Guelphorum, ii.
