Aethericus

Aethericus. Miniaturist.. Saec. X.

His obituary notice occurs in the Calendar prefixed to a MS. in the British Museum (Titus D. 27), f. 6, MAIUS xiii Kal. Obitus aetherici mo pictoris." From the occurrence of other names such as that of King Edgar, Abbot Aelfsin, and others, Aethericus seems to have been a monk of Newminster at Winchester before its removal to Hyde. The writer of the MS. calls himself Aelfsin monk, perhaps the abbot above-named; if so, the date of Aethericus is before 995. At any rate, he cannot be much later, from the handwriting which is of the kind generally called Anglo-Saxon. See Harl. MS. 1761, f. 15.
