Agambertus

Agambertus. Copyist.. Saec. VIII.

Probably Bishop of Albi between 768-800, though not mentioned in any historical documents. It is, however, admitted that the extant list are very imperfect.

He wrote "Hieronymi Commentarii in Jeremiam," libri sex. Vellum. Small folio, in wooden covers. Minuscule characters with title in capitals coloured. Formerly in the Library of St. Amand, now in that of Valenciennes, No. 52, B. 5, 36. Contains some curious things; among others, on folio 150 verso, a monogram. Mangeart gives facsimiles of this and of folio 181 as a specimen of the peculiarites of this singular MS. folio, e.g. for "qui legis ora pro scriptore," &c., we find "qxk lfgkr prb prp sckptprf," and below, in a vertical column, the writer's name, AGA | MBE | RTVS scripsit, and 4 ables of "square" words.--J. Mangeart: Catalogue descriptif et raisonné des MSS. de la Bibliothèque de Valenciennes, 50, 51, and Appendix V. 637.
