Abbott, Jacob. Born in Maine, 1803-1879. Father of Lyman Abbott, infra. An educator of New England, who was a voluminous and popular writer for young people. Among his numerous writings the best known are The Franconia Stories; Marco Paul's Adventures; The Rollo Books; Histories of Celebrated Sovereigns; Harper's Story books. See Bibliography of Maine. Published by Thomas Y. Crowell & Co., New York and Boston; and Harper & Bros., New York. He was the brother of Gorham Dummer Abbot, (sic) also an educator.
